Synovus Financial has promoted Kessel Stelling to the position of president and COO, The Wall Street Journal reports. Previously, he was the president and CEO of the Columbus-based bank’s Bank of North Georgia subsidiary. He will be succeeded by Donald Howard, Chairman of the board of Bank of North Georgia and Synovus regional CEO, adds Business Journal.
In his new role, Stelling will oversee the bank’s day-to-day banking operations, its retail banking efforts and the diversification of its commercial banking system. He has replaced Frederick Green, who left the bank in May 2009.
