Android Platform Gains Support From Verizon

10-09-2009 | Source: Global Telecoms Business

Google’s Android platform has won significant support from the operator community as U.S. carrier Verizon Wireless agrees to use the platform to deliver applications, services and devices.

Under the agreement, Google and Verizon will create, market and distribute products and services, including the co-development of several Android-based devices that will be pre-loaded with applications from both companies as well as third-party developers.

No details on who will manufacture the Android devices have been made public, but Verizon said it will start introducing the gadgets within the next few weeks.

The operator recently launched its developer community initiative that offers developers who have created applications for platforms such as Java, BREW, Android, Windows Mobile and others the opportunity to submit their applications for deployment in the company’s soon to be launched app store.
