The 20 Rising Stars of Real Estate

The second annual Rising Stars of Real Estate features a diverse set of dedicated professionals who exemplify the growth of the industry, including global initiatives.
Last year, more than two-thirds of our nominees were based in New York or on the East Coast. This years nominees have a more international flavor, with 15% based in Europe or Asia. As the market expands and grows overseas, we expect this trend in our Rising Stars to broaden as well.
Additionally, of our 20 nominee finalists, five are the chief executives or presidents of their respective firms, five work as fund managers, two are analysts, six are investment bankers, three are brokers, three are from real estate operating companies, one is a CDO specialist and one is a consultant.
More than half have advanced degrees, nine have their Masters or an MBA and one has a JD or juris doctor.
Also noteworthy about this years nominees:
the average age was 38 (with the youngest 31 years old and the eldest 43);
15% are based in Europe and Asia;
40% work in New York City;
20% work in private equity;
20% have worked on mega M&A deals; two nominees represent the niche gaming& lodging sector;
25% work for U.S.-based companies, but are focused on global initiatives;
Institutional Investor News sweep turned up real estate professionals who work across all aspects of the real estate business, from brokerage to investment banking, private equity, money management, research, and real estate operating companies. Our editorial staff winnowed nominees based on age, length of career, overall industry participation, expertise.
