Qwest Communications International is freezing future benefit accruals for its current management employees, Pensions & Investments reports. The accruals to its defined benefit (DB) pension plans will be stopped effective Jan. 1.

The suspension is applicable to both the Qwest Pension Plan and the Qwest Nonqualified Pension Plan. The move, which is likely to save the company $60 million annually, will not affect the employees covered by collective bargaining agreements with the Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
